Our Emerge project is well underway in Cannock Chase, we have an excited group of young
people and we can't believe it's almost Christmas already... like they say - time flies when you're
After a few weeks of training with The Mighty Creatives, I felt prepared and ready to take on the
energy and enthusiasm that the young people from Cannock Chase would bring. Alongside a
great team of LAB partners, we headed into local schools and set up meetings with young people
within their various groups to recruit some creative and eager sign-ups. Within a matter of weeks
we were ready to go!
Our first few sessions with the Emerge groups were all about getting to know each other and
getting excited about the possibilities that we can achieve in the coming months together. It's safe
to say that we have enough ideas to sink a ship! The groups have self names them self the
'Emerge Crew' and we've already been thinking about what our festival could be called!
At the start, the thing that I was most excited about was hearing all of the young people's ideas
and now I think the thing that excites me the most is seeing how the young people will grow in
creative confidence over the course of this project.
We've been exploring a variety of art forms, centred around Shakespeare and language, and so
far we've got stuck into dance, theatre, poetry, visual arts and photography. Over the next few
weeks, before the Christmas break, we are going to be making a performance at the Library and a
short film at the Museum that will be shared with friends and family on the 5th December. How
Having such a fantastic team to work with (Kerry, Tracie, Mal and Christine) the Emerge
workshops in Cannock Chase are running smoothly and off to a flying start. We're excited to see
what these young people will bring to the area and how we can engage with the local community.
