Shakespeare : To FEAR or NOT to fear

by Olivia Wheeler (The Mighty Creatives)

Young people are often first deterred by the name Shakespeare, and the connotations it brings.

WHAT WE HAVE LEARNT SO FAR:

  • Put your scripts down! The words on the page are very daunting and off putting
  • When working with people who are new to Shakespeare, start with the story and the characters. Build the world and the situation for them to connect to.
  • Put the text into your own words when trying to understand it
  • SHAKESPEARE IS FUN
  • Bring lots of props - like Flowers, masks, capes - It's fun to dress up and helps people to differentiate between reality and play.
