Today we have been scouting out and about in Ashfield to find a suitable host venue for our festival.
At first we imagined that Newstead Abbey would provide the perfect backdrop for a Shakespeare Festival. It is a beautiful site and attractive to a range of people of all ages and backgrounds.
However we soon realised that getting to the festival might be tricky for people who didn't drive and ultimately detract people from coming. It would also be weather as the venue is ultimately outdoor with limited shelter. This would mean investing a large part of the budget onto gazebos and tents etc.
Walking through Ashfield we soon discovered that the hubbub of activity was around the shopping centre IDLEWELLS. We not only fell in love with the architecture and openness of the space, but thought that this was an ideal location to capture an audience of Ashfield.
